Every two years, WWF publishes the Living Planet Report. In 2008, the report showed that the UAE had an Ecological Footprint of 9.5 global hectares per capita. This indicates that residents in the UAE consume more food, fibre, energy, goods and services than the planet can naturally regenerate. And when compared to the world’s biocapacity of 2.1 global hectares, it also indicates that if everyone in the world consumed like an average UAE resident, 4.5 planets would be required to support the demand!
